When deployment or other military assignments make it impossible for students to attend class and complete coursework within the scheduled time frame, UNOH offers special circumstance extensions or withdrawals. In order to determine a course of action that would allow students to fulfill their military obligations while also maintaining academic success, eligible service members are required to contact the Military Relations Department, the Registrar’s Office, and the course instructor(s).
Deployment orders, or a Memorandum of Record, must be submitted to the University of Northwestern Ohio's Military Relations Department no later than 14 calendar days after the start date of the orders. In the event there is an extenuating circumstance preventing the submission of documentation within this required time frame, contact the Military Relations Department to determine if there are qualifications for an exception and an updated arrangement for the receipt of documentation. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
If the deployment period exceeds one year, the student must submit documentation of the date of return to the Military Relations Department. The University of Northwestern follows the requirements of Public Law 117-328 Section 3691A, which includes no assignment of a punitive academic record for the applicable term and a refund of all tuition and fees paid for the term to the appropriate parties. Housing payments made by the students for University housing will be refunded.
The University of Northwestern Ohio promptly readmits service members who seek readmission to a program that was interrupted due to military service.
Service members who must withdraw due to a military obligation lasting for more than thirty (30) consecutive days and have provided verifying documentation of their military service to the Military Relations Department will be eligible for this provision. Military service includes voluntary or involuntary service in the Armed Forces, including active duty, National Guard, and Reserves.
Service members who must withdraw due to military orders may have their catalog year for program requirements maintained for up to one year from the date of withdrawal. If the deployment period exceeds one year, students will be asked to submit a new application (with no application fee).
A returning student will be readmitted into the same academic program the student was enrolled in prior to the military service obligation. This ensures the continuity of your academic progress. If the exact program no longer exists, the student will be admitted to the program that is most similar, unless the student requests or agrees to admission to a different program. Returning students will be reenrolled with the same enrollment status, number of completed credit hours, and academic standing as the last academic year of attendance.
Students readmitted to the same program after completing their military obligation will be charged the same tuition and fees that were in effect during the last academic year the student attended unless veterans' education benefits or other service member education benefits will pay the amount in excess. The returning student will not be charged tuition and fees above what other students in the same program are charged for subsequent academic years. If the service member is readmitted to a different academic program in the first academic year upon return, the student will be charged the same tuition and fees as others in that academic program.
