From the Director

As the summer approaches and the new 2012 - 2013 financial aid award year begins in June for the College of Technologies and in July for the College of Business, there are a few important considerations to be aware of as you obtain funding for your upcoming enrollment.

First, an electronic award notice will be on the internet; accessible from the University's homepage within a few weeks after your FAFSA has been completely processed. (A postcard and/or email will be sent to you alerting you when it has been posted.). However, if you are selected for verification by the Department of Education, please allow an additional two to three weeks to process the required paperwork. You must reply immediately to any US Department of Education verification requests. This award represents your eligibility for financial aid.

Second, for the students and parents who have chosen to use a Federal Direct Student, Federal Direct Parent Plus, or a Private Loan, an application/promissory note needs to be completed and signed by the borrower for every loan selected. Promissory notes must be signed by the borrower (and cosigned for private loans) to obtain the funds on your account for all loans selected.

To complete the electronic Master Promissory Notes (eMPN) for both the Federal Direct Student or Parent PLUS loan, please apply online at: https://studentloans.gov.

All Freshmen or first-time borrowers are required to complete an entrance interview. Information about completing the entrance interview is available on the Federal Direct loans MPN at: https://studentloans.gov. Continuing students who have completed the Federal Direct Student Loan Master Promissory note in a previous year do not have to repeat this step.

The most convenient and efficient way of completing the promissory note for private loans may be done online through our website. It is located at: www.unoh.edu/fastchoice.

Upon completing the online FAFSA application all students are automatically eligible for the Federal Direct Student Loan. Students will receive the funds annually, once the electronic Master Promissory Note has been signed for your first year of attendance. However, if you plan on applying for additional loan funds from the Federal Direct PLUS Loan or Private Loan there is a credit check for the borrower or cosigner. Keep in mind that the first disbursement of the loan must occur within 90 days of the credit check. Therefore, applying for the Direct PLUS or Private Loan earlier than 2 months prior to the students start date could require another application/credit check.

Reminder for College of Applied Technology students: In order to continue receiving Private Student Loan funds during this academic year, please note there is a "Private Loan Review" which will be required after the fourth session. This review allows students to determine if lesser or additional amounts will be needed from the Private Student Loan program for the remaining portion of the academic year. The application procedure for this second Private Student Loan will be the same as your initial Private Student Loan.

Finally, in preparation for paying your invoice, keep in mind all fees are due the first day of the term. Class registration is contingent upon either paying your fees, or making appropriate payment arrangements. New Students should be prepared or make financial arrangements to pay for their first term prior to orientation.

Please let us know of any questions you might have about the Financial Aid process. We are looking forward to seeing you when you enroll or your continuing enrollment.
