Overview

High school juniors and seniors who have a 3.00 or better g.p.a. may participate in this program upon the recommendation of their high school principal and/or guidance counselor; students in grades 9 and 10 must have a 3.5 g.p.a. or higher to participate. High school students must meet the college requirements for prerequisite courses and maintain satisfactory progress to continue in the program. This option is available fall, winter and spring quarters.

Save $$$

A student who participates in the University of Northwestern Ohio's Post-Secondary Options Program saves more than $225 per credit hour taken. A student who takes a five-credit-hour course in each of the three quarters saves more than $2500. And, best of all, there is no cost to the student who participates in the program. This option is available fall, winter, and spring quarters.

Transfer Credits

Students who wish to transfer to another college or university must contact that institution directly. The University of Northwestern Ohio will assist if necessary. The University of Northwestern Ohio is accredited by the Commission On Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, thus, allowing many of your credits to transfer to other institutions.

Proficiency Exams

Students may request proficiency examinations for advanced standing in some 100-level courses. The cost is $50 each.

All proficiency tests must be completed prior to the quarter the student plans to attend classes to allow for processing.

Delivery Methods

Virtual College
Students complete all of the work via the Internet. Each student must have internet access with a computer, required software for classes, and e-mail. Weekly contact is made with the instructor. All Virtual College students are required to take UN070, "Success Strategies" their first quarter. Virtual Advantage - No travel to UNOH required.

Traditional Classes
The student will attend regularly scheduled classes and follow the guidelines given by the instructor. Each student is required to attend an orientation on the University of Northwestern Ohio campus. A letter will be sent out with dates and times. With today's high school students' busy schedules, the above delivery methods allow students many options and flexibility in the Post-Secondary Options Program.

Course Load

Virtual College
Students may take only one class the first quarter in addition to UN070 Success Strategies. Upon successful completion of the course (the students must earn a C or better), they may then elect to take up to two courses in following quarters.

Traditional
Students may take up to two classes each quarter.

Placement Exams

Students will be required to take placement exams in math, reading and English. These exams can be taken at your home school with a designated proctor (Counselor).

Placement tests must be taken before enrolling into an English or math course and prior to the quarter's beginning.

Books

Virtual College
Books for Distance Learning will be mailed to the student. If the student does not continue the course, the books must be returned to the University of Northwestern Ohio.

Traditional
