09/17/2007 - Tennis RACERS TENNIS EARN FIRST VICTORIES IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The UNOH Men's tennis team took the court with ambition on Friday afternoon in an eager attempt to gain their first victory in the inaugural tennis season. The Racers came out firing taking all three of the doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles match was hard earned as the Racers came away victorious. In the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Racers dominated both matches 8-1. In the singles matches, UNOH won 5 of the 6 matches in straight sets and after a three set battle in the No. 3 spot, the Racers claimed a shutout on the Defiance College Yellow Jackets 9-0.

The UNOH women had to be patient en route to their first victory of the women's tennis program. The women Racers started their match with Defiance College on September 7th and completed the doubles matches with the Racers taking 2 of 3 to lead the match 2-1 before the match was suspended. The match resumed on Friday September 14th with 6 singles matches to take place. The Yellow Jackets had to default at the No. 5 spot due to an injured player between the finalizing of the match. UNOH were victorious in 4 of the 6 singles matches to claim a 6-3 victory over Defiance College.

09/17/2007 - Tennis RACERS FALL TO UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY
The University of Northwestern Ohio fell to 1-3 on the fall season as the Racers were downed by The University of Findlay Oilers 9-0 on Sunday, September 16 at Armstrong Complex in Findlay, OH.

The University of Northwestern Ohio women's tennis team fell to 1-3 on the year with an 8-1 defeat by The University of Findlay on Sunday, September 16 at the Armstrong Complex. The Oilers were aided by two forfeit wins during the match.

The Racers will be back in action again on September 20th-22nd when they take part in an ITA Tournament in Cedarville, Ohio which will conclude their fall season.
09/12/2007 - Tennis UNOH TENNIS TRAVELS TO OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY
The UNOH tennis squads traveled to Ohio Northern University on Wednesday afternoon for the Adidas Challenge. The men's tennis fell to ONU 8-1. The Racers only victory of the afternoon came at the No. 3 doubles spot, as Taylor Frangie and Troy Schroeder topped Thomas Major and Todd Anderson 8-3. At the No. 1 spot, Jason Sarno and William Draur were defeated by Micah Scott and Bart Schenck 8-1. Evan Carr and Logan Wyse were downed by Ryan Paul and Chris Dohner 8-2 at the No. 3 spot.
In the men's singles, the Racers were outmatched with upperclassmen as the ONU Polar Bears competed with 3 seniors and 3 juniors against the Racers Freshman squad. Sarno was defeated by ONU's Micah Scott 6-0, 6-1 to give Scott entry into ONU's prestigious 100-Win Club. Schroeder was defeated by Schenck 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 and No. 4 spot, Carr and Draur were both downed 6-0, 6-0 by Paul and Dohner. At the No. 5 spot, Ohio Northern inserted Jay Vaidya and he topped Frangie 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 6 spot, Kyle Webb was inserted and he defeated Logan Wyse 6-2, 6-2.
UNOH men fall to 0-2 on the season, while Ohio Northern moves to 1-0 this fall.
On the women's side, Ohio Northern proved to be too strong for the UNOH women as the Racers were downed 9-0. Doubles were opened with Jamie Hilborn and Carling Barrett falling to Jacqueline Sammon and Rachel Randall 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Ashley Yontz and Liz Bajusz won 8-1 over Erynn Piper and Sara Prinzi. At the No. 3 Spot, Rachel Cox and Atlanta Joseph were downed by Katie Gibbs and Jackie Hillis 8-0.
The singles opened with a very competitive match at the No. 1 spot as the Racers witnessed their first ever 3 set match. Jamie Hilborn opened with a 7-5 first set victory over Jacqueline Sammon, but Sammon regained the momentum in the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set. The third set was a thriller as Hilborn was downed 10-7 in the third and deciding set. At the No. 2 spot, Piper was defeated by Randall 6-1, 6-0. Barrett was downed by Bajusz 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. At the No. 4 spot, Prinzi was topped by Yontz 6-1, 6-2. ONU inserted Kristi Tipperman at the No. 5 spot and she topped Cox 6-0, 6-0. Joseph competed at the No. 6 spot and was downed 6-2, 6-0 by Gibbs.
UNOH women fall to 0-2 on the season with a match suspended against Defiance College leading 2-1 after doubles. ONU women move to 1-0 on their season.
The Racers tennis squads will be in action this Friday starting at 3 pm as the women will resume their match with Defiance College and the men will begin a match against Defiance.
09/07/2007 - Tennis MATCH SUSPENDED WITH RACERS LEADING 2-1
The women's tennis team showed determination on Friday afternoon at the Collett St. courts against Defiance College, but Mother Nature had different ideas as the heavy rains suspended the Racers first home tennis match this season as the Racers jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles play.
The first doubles match featured Jamie Hilborn and Carling Barrett defeat Emily Meyer and Amanda Auzins 8-6 to give Hilborn and Barrett their first doubles victory in their UNOH careers. In the second doubles match, UNOH's Erynn Piper and Sara Prinzi came from behind to earn their first doubles victory with a score of 8-6. In the third doubles match, UNOH's Rachel Cox and Atlanta Joseph couldn't find a way to get it going and were defeated by Defiance's Chelsea French and Brittney Martin. With the singles matches underway, the match will resume Friday September 14th at 3:30 pm.
The Racers will be in action before then as the men's and women's tennis teams will travel to face Ohio Northern University on Wednesday September 12th at 2:30 pm.
08/30/2007 - Tennis RACERS SHOW YOUTH IN OPENING MATCH
The University of Northwestern Ohio men's and women's teams opened their tennis season with both squads losing 8-1. On the men's side, the doubles matches showed promise as #1 Jason Sarno and William Draur were defeated by Taylor Moore and Mitchell McDonald 8-6. Evan Carr and Logan Wyse were defeated by Gonzalo Vivas and Adam Widener by a score of 8-4 at #2. At #3, Troy Schroeder and Taylor Frangie were defeated by Matt Cable and James Makula 8-3.
The men's lone victory came at the #5 spot as William Draur defeated James Makula 6-4, 6-4 to give Draur the first men's victory of the season. The rest of the Racers went down in straight sets as Sarno was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at the #1. Schroeder was edged in a tough match 6-3, 6-4 at the #2. Carr was taken down 6-4, 6-0 at the #3. Frangie opened the single season with a loss with scores of 6-4, 6-0 at the #4. Rounding out the men's side was Wyse who suffered a defeat of 6-4, 6-1 at the #6.
The women were a little shorthanded and were forced to Default two matches due to only having five players available for the match. The doubles opened with Jamie Hilborn and Carling Barrett being outmatched with experience by a score of 8-3 at the #1. At the #2, Erynn Piper and Sara Prinzi were defeated by Jessica Deter and Kendra Ganz 8-4. At the #3 in the women's doubles, UNOH had to default and Huntington gained the victory.
In the women's singles, the first victory and a promising look for the future of the women's tennis team was #1 Hilborn. Hilborn was winning 6-4, 2-1 at the time a Default was awarded to Hilborn as Stephanie Strong was unable to finish the match. The rest of the Racers were defeated in straight sets as #2 Barrett was defeated 6-1, 6-3. At the #3, Piper was defeated 6-0, 6-2. Prinzi was at the #4 and was downed 6-1, 6-1. At the #5, Joseph opened her season with defeats of 6-0, 6-0. At the #6, the Racers were unable to play and were defeated by a Default.
After the match, Coach Terry Hilborn was quoted, "We were very competitive in our opening match, especially coming out strong in our doubles matches." The Racers were outmatched with experience as the Racers open the tennis program without any collegiate experience, "It was underclassmen against upperclassmen and we held our own" Hilborn said.
The Racers tennis squads will look to build on their season as they play their opening home match on September 7 at Collett St. tennis courts. The Racers will host Defiance College at 2:30 pm.
