From the Director

As the summer approaches and the new 2008 - 2009 financial aid award year begins in June for the College of Technologies and in July for the College of Business, there are a few important considerations to be aware of as you obtain funding for your upcoming enrollment.

First, please make sure the tax return information that has been submitted to the IRS is correct on the FAFSA application with the actual information from your 2007 tax returns. If you need to update your FAFSA with new information please go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and click on link "Make Corrections to a processed FAFSA"

Second, an electronic award notice will be on the internet; accessible from the University's homepage within a few weeks after your FAFSA has been completely processed. (A postcard will be sent to you alerting you when it has been posted.). However, if you are selected for verification by the Department of Education, please allow an additional two to three weeks to process the required paperwork. You must reply immediately to any US Department of Education verification requests. This award represents your eligibility for financial aid.

Third, for the students and parents who have chosen to use a Federal Stafford, Federal Plus, or a Private Loan, an application/promissory note needs to be completed and signed by the borrower for every loan selected. Promissory notes must be signed by the borrower (and cosigned for private loans) to obtain the funds on your account for all loans selected. The most convenient and efficient way of completing the promissory note is done online through our website. It is located at: http://www.opennet.salliemae.com.

Upon completing the online FAFSA application all students are automatically eligible for the Federal Stafford Loan. Students will receive the funds annually, once the Master Promissory Note has been signed for your first year of attendance. However, if you plan on applying for a Federal PLUS Loan or Private Loan there is a credit check for the borrower or cosigner. Keep in mind that the first disbursement of the loan must occur within 180 days of the credit check. Therefore, applying for the PLUS or Signature Loan earlier than 3 months prior to the students start date could require another application/credit check.

Finally, in preparation for paying your invoice, keep in mind all fees are due the first day of the term. Class registration is contingent upon either paying your fees, or making appropriate payment arrangements. New Students should be prepared or make financial arrangements to pay for their first term prior to orientation.

Please let us know of any questions you might have about the Financial Aid process. We are looking forward to seeing you when you enroll or your continuing enrollment.
