For terms of enrollment beginning
Summer 2008 - Spring 2009
An e-mail notice about the reapplication procedure for students filing
the 2008-2009 "Renewal" Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA) using FAFSA ON THE WEB (FOTW) has been sent to your
current email address by the U.S. Department of Education.
If you wish to apply for financial assistance for the 2008-2009 academic year,
you should start the process by completing the Pre-Application Worksheet, which
is available by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov and then clicking on FAFSA on the Web Worksheets.
If you are interested in receiving any of the following funds: Federal Pell Grant, Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant Federal, SEOG Grant, Ohio and other state grants, Federal Stafford Loan (Subsidized or Unsubsidized), Student Employment, and/or a Federal Parent's Loan, you must complete this FAFSA application.
As soon as possible after January 1, 2008, and after completing the FAFSA on the Web
Worksheet, please go to the website, http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to
apply for the above-mentioned financial aid programs.
Because all students are required to use the Web to reapply for student aid,
the Federal Government will not print and mail paper Renewal FAFSAs. You (and
at least one parent if you are dependent) will also need the U.S. Department
of Education PIN to complete and make corrections on the WEB. You and your parents
may obtain a "PIN" this year by requesting one from the following website address
of: http://www.pin.ed.gov/.
If you have forgotten your PIN, you can request a duplicate by going to the PIN Web site and selecting the option "Request a Duplicate PIN." From the PIN Web site, you can ask to have your PIN sent to you by e-mail or U.S. postal mail. You will receive your original or duplicate PIN in 4 hours by e-mail or in 7-10 days by postal mail.
If you are applying for financial assistance and did not receive the email notice
about the renewal FAFSA process, you may complete an application by going to
the website address of http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and
complete the "FAFSA on the Web." Corrections to your 2008-2009 FAFSA can also
be made on the WEB at the same address. Please remember that your "PIN" number
is necessary to both submit the application and make corrections on the WEB.
Please submit the FAFSA before April 1, 2008, to ensure
the University of Northwestern Ohio the ability to provide your assistance
for the 2008-2009 academic year. Also, be sure to accurately complete
all forms, taking note to request that UNOH receive the results (Code
004861). Please be sure to include your pin numbers and print a copy
of the Confirmation Page for your records before submitting the FAFSA. Processing
time for the FAFSA is generally from 4 to 6 weeks. Student notification
of assistance (award notices) will occur through the spring and summer
months, generally starting in early April. Your Financial Aid Award
Notice will be sent to your UNOH campus-email account.
If you are selected for verification (30% of all applicants will be), your award
notice will be delayed as additional forms and the 2007 Federal Tax Returns are
required for the verification process. Your individual award notice process will
not begin if you are selected for verification until the financial aid office
receives the completed and signed Verification Form, Worksheet A, B, & C and
2007 tax returns from you. Students whose families experience a loss of income
in calendar year 2008 as compared to 2007 may wish to contact a Financial Aid
Counselor for information on how to proceed.
The Ohio Student Choice Grant will be automatically renewed for students
enrolled in a four-year Bachelor's degree program and it will be be $660
for 2008-2009. The maximum quarters of eligibility for this grant are 15 quarters.
If you used the Federal Stafford Loan (Subsidized or Unsubsidized) in 2007-2008, your Stafford Loan will be automatically processed with the amount noted on your award notice this year since you completed the Master Promissory Note. If you wish to decline or request a lesser amount, please let the financial aid office know by submitting your award notice with the appropriate notations for the requested amount. The amount listed on your award should be available for your upcoming year terms of enrollment and will be sent from the current year's selected lender and Guarantee Agency. Federal Stafford Loan eligibility is $3500 per nine-month year for freshman and $4500 per nine-month year for sophomores. Junior and senior amounts are the same at $5500 per nine-month year.
If you used the Federal PLUS Loan last year, and your parents completed the Master
Promissory Note, then a new application is not necessary. However, your parents
still need to go to www.parentanswer.com and get a pre-approval and input the
requested borrowed amount. If you did not use the Federal PLUS Loan or Private
Signature Loans last year and intend to use either the PLUS or Private Signature
Loans last year and intend to use either the PLUS or Private Signature Loans, you will need to do a new application at www.opennet.salliemae.com. Please
be sure to apply shortly after May 1st to both avoid multiple credit checks to
your credit history and allow timely processing of these loans for the fall term
fee payments.
