There is an abundance of information about the travel and hotel industry available electronically but the average customer wants to deal with an expert, and that expert could be you!  A specific area of growth in travel and hotel management is the cruise industry.  The growth is seen on cruise ships as they expand in number and size, and on the agency side for booking cruises and tours.

One of the things that sets the University’s travel and hotel management program apart is all of our students have the opportunity to go on a cruise. In most cases the cost is covered by financial aid.  Students have opportunities to travel internationally and earn college credit while they attend the University. A student who personally experiences a cruise, and other travel opportunities, is better prepared to plan and serve future clients and be successful in the travel industry.

Another area of growth involves the gaming industry and the surging job opportunities in hotels and resorts associated with casinos.

UNOH’s program also includes courses in Event Planning.  This involves putting together corporate meetings, fundraisers, conventions, trade shows, parties, weddings, and sporting events.  Many organizations are now hiring professional event planners, and the demand is very high for people who love to be in charge of all the arrangements

The travel industry has changed dramatically in recent years, and while more information is available electronically, new opportunities have opened up for web-based agents working from home, specializing in Travel & Hotel Management.

An associate’s degree from unoh will prepare you for careers such as:

  • Hotel and resort managers
  • Front Office Managers
  • Event planners
  • Travel Agents
  • Convention Service Managers
  • Food and Beverage Managers
  • Catering Managers
  • Cruise line personnel

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for hotel managers is more than $46,000, with experienced General Managers of larger hotels earning over $100,000.**

* Percentages are based on surveys of our 2012-2014 academic travel and hotel management associate degree graduates who reported they are employed or are continuing their education within 6 months of graduation from the University of Northwestern Ohio.  There was a 60% response rate to this survey.
